The End of Christianity
Winter 2022’s “The End of Christianity” was enjoyable, thought provoking, impressive, and, frankly, intimidating in its breadth! I was glad to be introduced to the thought of Chantal Delsol.
I am of two minds about “The End of Christianity.” On the one hand, I recognize and agree that Christendom can be and is right now an idol drawing false worship. The book of Acts begins, pre-Pentecost, with the naïve question, “Will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Acts ends with an imprisoned Paul evangelizing Roman Jews. The kingdom came not by wresting the reins of power over Israel from unbelievers but by bearing the cross and speaking the Gospel. Today’s idolatrous approach to Christendom runs the other way, begging earthly strongmen to keep us at their tables.
